How to make friends on holiday?

Im going on holiday soon & I'm really shy. I want rk make friends with other teenagers who are staying at the hotel because there's always loads of really nice groups. How can I start talking to them and become friends with them :(? I don't want to be mega bored with my mum & dad and they're always nagging me to be less shy but I don't know how to start talkig to them ?
